The Island of Elba

Marciana Marina

The most stunning way of getting there is maybe by boat (if you have got one...). In the middle of a blue sea, sided by dolphins and surrounded by the beauty of our genuine nature, point your seals toward the highest mountain of the island. There, where the valley reaches the sea and hugs it softly, Marciana Marina found its location lots of centuries ago, when kings and princes battled for the control on those strategic lands. Since then, the Medicean tower overwhelms the small port, making the characteristic skyline and giving unforgettable sunsets...

There are many reasons for visiting once in lifetime at least. Marciana Marina is the perfect place from where visiting the last unspoiled spots of the Mediterranean sea. It is incredible how different are the sceneries you find in such short distances, and how quickly you can get from tropical sandy beaches to wild woods...

Maximum 30 minutes by car away from all the most beautiful beaches of Elba, perfectly connected with public transportations (30 minutes from Portoferraio with direct bus) and especially recommended for those who want to hire a small boat: MM is the definitely the perfect departing place to explore the tens of inaccessible small beaches by land.

The sea front promenade is the fulcrum of Marciana Marina. As in the past, the daily life is centred here, between the ancient fishermen “quartiere” of Il Cotone, built upon massive rocks (“Cotone” means big rock), and the Santa Chiara square with its church; the very centre of the old italian towns.

The Hotel Yacht Club is right at the end of the promenade, just 10 minutes away from downtown by foot, and 50 metres away from the main beach called La Fenicia.

The Beaches

Long white sandy beaches, small and quite bays, protected holm and ancient wrecks out of mask... You just have to choose how to take advantage at best of your stay. The island is quite small with a 220 km coast, reason why even on bad days, with wind and slight sea, it is not difficult to find out an hiding place where to relax in peace. Just 30 minutes for going from a side of the island to the other...

It is incredible how different could be the characteristics of the beaches around Elba. The south coast, with its typical mediterranean low vegetation, is well-characterized of long sandy beaches, cactus and maritime pines, while the west shore is full of natural pools dug by the sea into the rocks...

If you like snorkeling, do not loose one of the many wrecks just 100 mt off the coast. The most famous, and the better preserved one, is the one in front of the small Pomonte town. During the second world war it used to be a big commercial ship, but since then, time converted it in a real sanctuary of undersea-life and colors. All you have to do is to take a mask and discover it... But don't worry, you don't need to swim 100mt deep: it is just 2 mt under the surface!

The main Marciana Marina's beach is called "La Fenicia" and it is just 2 steps away from our Hotel Yacht Club... There, you can choose if taking the sun for free on the beach, or staying in one of the two bathing establishment, with all their facilities. Thanks to the stony shape of the beach, everyone will enjoy the cleanliness and purity of water
