The island of Elba

The island of Elba is the largest of the islands of the Tuscan archipelago, and the third largest in Italy. Marciana Marina, one of the seven municipalities, is the smallest municipality in Tuscany by territorial extension. It’s located at the end of a suggestive valley that from the slopes of Mount Capanne embraces the sea after 1000 meters drop.

When arriving by car from Portoferraio, at the last bend you can admire the view of the bay, the port and the valley, and the sun plunging into the sea, between Capo Sant’Andrea and the island of Capraia. And you cannot fail to be enchanted by the majestic Pisan tower, which since the 13th century has been preventing pirates and corsairs to invade the rich lands of Marciana…

Activities to do

The town develops itself along the promenade, that starts from the Pisan tower and ends at the ancient village of Cotone, a primordial inhabited centre built on large tongues of rock (“Cotone” means “large rock”).

Lose yourself in the narrow streets that run through it, savour the scent of the flowers that colour the windows of the charming houses. Stop here to admire the view from the square that overlooks the sea, or lay on the rocks to sunbathe…

Beaches

Long white sandy beaches, small secluded coves, protected islets and wrecks within reach of a diving mask, you will be spoiled for choice when deciding where to go. The island with its 147 km of coastline allows you to always find the right place.

In just 30 minutes by car you can go from one part of the island to the other, and discover beaches with different characteristics depending on where they are located. If the coast facing south is characterized by long sandy beaches, the western coast is dotted with strips of smooth rock at sea level forming small natural pools.

.

Wrecks sunk in the past, some of them shallow and close to the coast, are real sanctuaries for marine flora and fauna. With a rental boat you can reach coves that are inaccessible by land, off the tourist itineraries and particularly quiet.

The beach of Marciana Marina, called “La Fenicia”, is located just 50 meters from our Hotel. Characterized by rocks and small white pebbles, it is a public beach with two bathing establishments equipped with umbrellas, showers, cabins, swimming pool and bar.
